Button Rides The Crest Of A Wave.

The only thing that was certain about the Malaysian Grand Prix was that Brawn would win the race. After Jenson Button qualified on pole position with Rubens Barrichello in eigth it seemed the honour would fall to JB. But he fluffed the start and had to fight his way back to the front and then had to cope with the transient weather conditions, which he did superbly. This became anyone’s race to win with Glock, Trulli, Webber, Rosberg et. al. all in with a shout but Jenson made the most of everything that was thrown at him and emerged victorious.

Ferrari are not normally a team that give me amusement, after the way they ran a one car team when Schumacher was there. But on Sunday at Sepang there were 2 incidents that made me howl. First was Kimi Raikkonen pitting for wet tyres on a completely dry track. What were they thinking? It was crazy. One must react to the conditions, not pre-empt them. Utter insanity. The next was Felipe Massa on the grid after the red flag screaming and shouting that he wanted a white visor. His engineer’s response, ” Felipe baby stay cool, stay cool, we’re in a good position”. Clearly Massa had lost the plot along with several other members of the Ferrari team. I thought it was hilarious.

The decision to run the race late in the afternoon was foolhardy as it was in Australia. The F.I.A. and F.O.M have to stop putting commercial considerations before safety and sporting ones.
